Thursday Recs

Posting from my phone because the wind blew the Internet out 🙃

Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

Three for the Memories Coming Back Next Month!

3 for the Memories' 2025 session will be open for posts on January 3, 2026 and will run for 3 weeks until January 24. Event participation is as follows:

1) Three photos only per person during each annual session. Members are encouraged to discuss the reason for their choices.

2) Photos can be hosted at Dreamwidth or elsewhere, and should not be larger than 800 px width or height.

3) All three photos should be in the same post. Cut tags should be placed after the first photo.

3 for the Memories is not a competition, and entries are not being judged. Rather, participants are encouraged to share photos they took in 2025 that they find meaningful in some way or which represent how they experienced the year.

Product Review: Sweet Loren's Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough

I found Sweet Loren's Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough in the dairy section at my local Kroger analogue, and after my recent success with Trader Joe's Super Chocolatey Gluten Free Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough, I was excited to branch out in the world of preproportioned cookie doughs.

Like TJ's, you get 12 pucks of cookie dough in a package and can bake on demand. It also says you can freeze the dough. I baked them straight out of the refrigerator for about 18 minutes, and got thin cookies about two inches across, with crispy edges and a chewy middle.

I found these odd. The cookie bit is weirdly grainy, like it has cornmeal in it. Maybe it's oat chunks. It also has a hearty flavor, probably again due to the oats and maybe the molasses. Kind of a homestyle vibe. The chocolate is very nice and kind of softens the cookie experience, but there isn't enough chocolate to make up for its grittyness or its unusual flavor.

These are vegan and soy free, though! And Sweet Loren's has more than a dozen different kinds of cookie doughs, though I think my store only had one or two.

Update: These are a lot different after they've cooled. My initial review was based on cookies that were about ten minutes out of the oven. Two days later, cookies from that same batch aren't as gritty and their flavor is less...bold.

Current Ingredients: Flour Blend (oat, tapioca, potato starch), Sugar, Palm Oil, Chocolate Chunks (sugar, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, vanilla, salt), Filtered Water, Molasses, Natural Flavors, Sea Salt, Baking Soda.

Mood Theme in a Year Returns!

[community profile] moodthemeinayear is coming back in 2026 with a new twist: Creating a custom mood theme can now earn you Dreamwidth points!

Mood Theme in a Year is a community that takes a laid-back approach to creating a custom mood theme. If you've always wanted to create your own mood theme (those little images that pop up when you select something from the drop-down "Mood" menu when posting), this is a great place to do it! Take your time creating graphics for anywhere between 15 and 132 moods, either following the community's suggested schedule or going at your own pace. (Though you need to make a minimum of 18 graphics to earn any paid time.)

The "official" schedule starts again from the beginning on January 1st, but you can jump in at any time during the year; feel free to challenge yourself as well with Bingo cards or the Mood Theme in a Month calendars! Learn more in the community pinned post or profile.

I hope to see you there!

EVENT: Be A Goldfish: A Multifandom Multimedia Microbang

Be A Goldfish 2026: 1 Jan to 28 Feb 2026
Description: A multifandom, multimedia, make-a-thon! Contributors are encouraged to share multiple works throughout (though not required!), as well as leave many comments on any and all fanworks shared throughout.

There are no sign-ups, check-ins, or discord servers. This is all very low-stakes, go-at-your-own-pace fun. For anyone interested in a bit of structure, there will be a completely optional punch card that you can mark off weekly if you leave a comment on a work or share one of your own. Additionally, we have provided an optional series of weekly prompts in the hopes of inspiring you to experiment creatively and find new fannish heights!

All fandoms are allowed: From megafandoms like Star Trek and Tolkien to that one canceled-too-soon series from the 80s that only you and your closest mutual know about because you're the one who told them about it in the first place, everything that has ever given you that fannish itch is both allowed and highly encouraged (RPF included).

All mediums are allowed: fic, art, meta, web weaves, gifs, playlists, food, fiber or paper crafts, etc. Very multi, very media, very wow!

All text-based entries must be 1,000 words or less, hence the micro aspect of this “bang.” We’re especially encouraging things like drabbles, poetry, ficlets, and of course, non-fic fanworks.

Schedule: 1 January - 28 February 2026

Come join our community and/or drop us a follow on tumblr and, if you feel so inspired, ring in the new year with your fellow fans!

Product Review: Trader Joe's Super Chocolatey Gluten Free Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough

Super Chocolatey Gluten Free Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough is found in the deli refrigerators at Trader Joe's. You take it home, store it in your refrigerator, and bake on demand. The dough comes in twelve pucks, and I bake six at a time for 20 minutes. Then I let them cool on the sheet for about 10 minutes to firm up before eating.

These are thick cookies with chewy edges and gooey centers. They taste slightly of marshmallow, which I'm not against, but they're also a bit sweeter than I like my chocolate chip cookies. This would easily be remedied by only eating one per serving, but I have yet to fully unlock the secret of how to do this.

Bottom line: Super convenient, dairy free, great hot, and still good the next day.
Current Ingredients: semisweet chocolate (sugar, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, soy lecithin [emulsifier]), palm oil, brown sugar, potato starch, sugar, tapioca starch, water, rice flour, invert sugar syrup, contains 2% or less of egg, natural flavor, sea salt, baking soda, guar gum, xanthan gum.
leecetheartist: A lime green dragon head, with twin horns, and red trim. Very gentle looking, with a couple spirals of smoke from nose. (Default)
