After coming back on the public's radar with "Cabin in the Woods", Joss was tapped to do the Avengers movie. This was the culmination of years of work and set up with movies like Thor, Iron Man 1 & 2, and Captain America. Geeks started Squeeing as soon as they heard and broke the box office when Avengers came out. Now we get to see him in the medium he is best known for (Geek TV) and the second Avengers movie. Hopefully they can keep the franchise going with Joss for years to come. http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/08/07/joss-whedon-signed-for-avengers-2-and-working-on-the-marvel-universe-tv-series/

On July 20, 2012 there was a shooting at the Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. The gunman, James Eagan Holmes, was dressed like a swat team member. 12 people were killed and 58 others were injured. The guns were legal, he used smoke canisters so arming the audience wouldn't have helped.
Community reaction: Three of the five hospitals treating victims announced that they would limit medical bills or forgive them entirely. The Community First Foundation collected more than $5 million for a fund for victims and their families. In September, victims and their families received surveys asking about their preferences for how collected funds should be distributed, either by dividing it equally among victims or through a needs-assessment process.
The gunman: James Eagan Holmes told a classmate that he wanted to kill people four months before the shooting. He was known to psychiatrist at his college.

Lets get this out of the way first: Chick filla stopped funding hate groups after the boycotts and public backlash:

This is less a "yeah chick filla" thing than a "yeah public shaming and boycotts work" thing.
This is after donating 5 MILLION dollars to anti-gay groups, including those that have been designated 'hate groups' by the Southern Poverty Law Center according to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
Actions like those described here:

show that the company and its owners are still trying to raise money for jerks but at least when people can eat a sandwich without their money going to fund hate groups...so chalk this up a win I guess?
Here you can find info about the donations that started the campaign:
