I assume everyone has heard the news, approximately 15 years into its 90 day mission the Mars Rover Opportunity has been declared dead. A storm covered its solar panels in dust and its batteries ran out. They tried sending message after message but it didn't respond after telling them "My battery is low and it's getting dark". I know there are more urgent, more sad, events happening; some of which I could even have some effect on - and yet every time I see a mention of it I fight tears. The phrase "Opportunity dies in darkness" keeps ringing through my head. In NASA's last message they sent Billie Holiday's "I'll Be Seeing You", which includes a line most appropriate for the occasion "I'll be looking at the moon, but I'll be seeing you".

[personal profile] melannen posted: Signal Boost: Signal Boost bookmarklet with user name tags for more sites
So [personal profile] astolat updated the bookmark code again a few days ago, and then I updated it more, and then [personal profile] ljwrites updated it even more!
So now it
a) preserves html in the copied text (astolat);
b) works for some people it had been broken for before (me);
c)strips out multiple signal boost: prefixes in titles (me, sorry);
d) fails better with non-DW websites (me);
e) actually works well with a list of non-DW websites that are compatible with DW (lj-writes)
f) has slightly more best-practices formatting (lj-writes)
....at some point we're going to have to stop calling it a "tiny" bookmarklet. :D
Woo hoo! The little bookmarklet that could keeps improving!

From [personal profile] conuly's link postSexist Jokes Make Men Think Sexist Behavior Is Okay, Study Says - VICE
Peter Hegarty is a psychology professor at University of Surrey and the lead author on the study. Hegarty says that men's magazines generally "broadened the kinds of sexism that men found normal."

So yeah like all the warnings for examples of rape, rape culture, sexual harassment, and sexism. To be fair, the article had to be that direct because people don't take our word for it on how bad it is when described more generally. The title is actually the least clear and direct part of the article it could equally have said "...think rape is okay, multiple studies say" but then the people who need to see it would be less likely to click. I believe the phrase I am looking for is "we been knew" but hopefully having actual studies will make people think about what they read a little more carefully.
