shy_magpie: Black & white typewriter (Fanfic)

added July 17th, 2023, otherwise unedited: this rather fell by the wayside and I think if I try anything like it again I am going to go more personal/casual so no need to keep this at the top of my journal. Thank you to everyone who shared with us, it really did make me feel like a proper contributing member of a community of fans. Back to the old post:

A note before we get started: This post will be edited fairly regularly for a number of reasons: To add more links, to improve the how-to, to update the signups, and fix any mistakes. Please check back, I wanted to make sure something got thrown up ASAP because people have been kind enough to talk about it on their own journals and next month will be hosted at another journal. Please reply here to sign up for future months. Please also let me know if there are any improvements I could make to this post.

Each week should be on its own post with "Fanfic Friday" somewhere in the subject line. It should be posted on Friday morning as early you can comfortably do it; so the conversation can get started and people will know where/when to look for it. Host posts must be public entries, with comments allowed from all Dreamwidth Users. Hosts should send me a link to their post so it can get on this list ASAP.

The post should contain a brief explanation; 3-5ish fanfic links each with either the AO3 share info or another way of giving enough info people know what they are getting into, and why you are recing it (funny, hot, good writing, best use of a roomba); an explicit (no not that kind of explicit) request for recs from your readers that includes the instruction to link to NSFW images rather than just plopping them in the replies.

As host you should also be keeping an eye on replies. I try to say something about everyone's recs, even if its just "I haven't seen that pairing very often", I don't want anyone wondering if they are being ignored or feeling unwelcome. Personally I try to back off if my guests are having a conversation with one another, but try to keep an eye on tone.

So far I haven't seen any problems on my or [personal profile] ineptshieldmaid's posts but I will not allow Fanfic Friday to be a source of bullying, ship wars, or other nonsense. They can take it to their own journals. Speaking of their own journals, while I ask you to be as welcoming as you can, don't hesitate to tell your guests to link to a post on their own journal if they want to post info about a fic or have a discussion about something that bothers you. You don't have to have PTSD to be squicked by something enough that you don't even want a description of it in your journal. That said it is 2019 and if you can't handle the idea of vanilla m/m pairings you shouldn't be a host and should probably unfriend me right now. Try to be fair in how you use that authority too, you can't say no Luke/Leia fics on your post because incest then allow Sam/Dean fics because you ship it.
