Stupidly petty thought that keeps running through my head about how people will see this point in time? I read/seen far too many sci-fi, horror, and fantasy stories about "what if there was a disease only (Vampires/criminals/people who otherwise pose an objective danger to the community) caught?" stories written during the Aids epidemic* to face the "what if a disease spread that only took out those who don't fit a narrow definition of productive members of society?" stories that are going to come out of this.

Half of them will end up justifying Eco-fascism, many by accidentally making a world where they are right without spelling out how much that world would suck and how different it is from our own, far too many will actually be Eco-fascist but will hide behind the genre to say they were "just playing with the idea". Like I don't want any fiction censored but we can't train people in schools to analyze the color of the wall paper and then say that people can't give each other a heads up that a work of fiction that parallels a historical event in a way that might be hard for the people who lived through it to read without bringing up some things.

Of course attitudes are changing while you would probably have been laughed at for asking for that arc on Forever Knight to be tagged in someway; maybe people will be okay with letting people know about the up coming works. Plus its a hell of a lot easier to find out about books, movies, and shows ahead of purchase now days. It will still be around but I won't have to live through it the same way*.

*No I'm not old enough to have caught the first wave of AIDs fiction but between watching mostly syndicated shows (both on cheaper channels and I didn't have to wait a week between episodes) and used books, it came up a lot and pissed me off more because people wouldn't admit that's what it was like they would about Cold War parallels.

...Oh shit. That’s a terrifying thought and makes way too much sense.
